Imagine viewing with your PC the thousands of videos, TV shows and movies that the Internet has to offer. If you have a laptop, then your TV viewing can be done on the go wherever you have access to the Internet. Things are even more interesting if your Internet connection is wireless. These are just a few of the benefits of watching TV on the computer and this article will give you four tips on how to do this. 1) Did you know that there is a ton of free movie classics, old TV shows and documentaries available for your viewing in the public domain? The public domain contains content with expired copyrights and is totally free for your consumption. You can readily find this material using a search engine in which your search phrase contains 'public domain' along with terms such as 'film', 'video', etc. If you are patient with your search efforts, hours of old classics will be yours for the taking. 2) Try using a TV tuner card to convert your PC into a television set that receives and displays video signals to your monitor. Most TV tuner cards will also allow you to record and playback whatever show you wish to watch at a later time. Note that this method does not involve using the Internet since your PC is getting video signals directly off the 'air waves'. A quality tuner card can cost you anywhere from $100 to $200 although plenty of cheaper cards exist. 3) How do you get a DVD quality image when viewing a movie on your PC? Answer: insert a DVD into your CD-ROM drive! In order to do this, you need to download the appropriate media player with this capability. You can get a freebie at Realplayer.com. Look for and click on the 'Get it free' button. Follow the directions after this. After installing it, Insert a DVD, start up the player and open the 'Play' menu. Then click 'Play CD or DVD'. 4) A more recent method to watch TV on the computer is the use of a software download that enables your PC to pick up satellite TV via the Internet. Because the TV shows are transmitted online, there are no hardware requirements other than having an Internet connection that is reasonably fast. This software can cost from $40 to $100 and will give you access to over 3000 channels and shows world wide. Once the software is purchased and installed, a lifetime of unrestricted access is yours. Hopefully you now see your computer in a whole new light and will take advantage of the enormous entertainment possibilities available at your fingertips. With time, Internet TV and video will only increase in number and quality. If you haven't done so already, you really need to explore this great new medium.
