How much golf do you play? Can you justify the cost of membership against the amount you spend on green fees every time you play a round at your country club golf course? If you only play on Saturday mornings for instance, and the green fee is $25 your golf is costing you $1300 a year. Not much point then in forking out $2000 to become a member. Obviously though, looking at those figures, if you played twice a week you would be wise to take up the offer of country club golf membership. There are of course other privileges to becoming a member of your country club that should be considered such as spa, sauna and gym equipment available etc. Is there an in house league, competitions and other activities? Is there a thriving youth program for your youngsters to get involved with and anything your partner may be interested in if they don't play golf? Some club memberships carry a lot of status for their chosen members and this could be important if you run your own business and your target market are the affluent. These clubs can also give your teenage children a step up the ladder once they reach adult hood. Being known to the wealthy and elite of their community is going to be a big advantage once college is out of the way and a job is required. For true golfers though, these are just added bonuses to being a member of what is hopefully a great golf course. As a golfer, what might be of interest is that many country club golf shops offer discounts to their members. These can range from 10% up to 20% and you could also be offered discount green fees to any none members who accompany you for a round of golf. If you are new to the area you may wish to try several country clubs before deciding by taking out a monthly membership. Even if they do not advertise a one month membership, they can usually be negotiated. Country clubs sometimes have property for sale set amongst and around the golf course itself. These properties usually come with country club golf membership included. One such country club is Collier's Reserve in Naples, Florida. Situated along the Cocohatchee River it offers its homeowners the chance to enjoy fishing and boating as well championship golf. Now thats what I call a great life! This type of country club has been hugely popular for some time now in Europe, particularly Spain and Portugal. Thousands of people from England and other northern European countries take early retirement and move there for the sunnier climate and superb country club golf.
