Karaoke - Top 5 Tips To Have The Time Of Your Life

By: Chelsea M Butterworth

1)Choose A Song

The final choice of song will need to be within your vocal range and amount of training. Straining and squeaking through your favourite Mariah Carey track is a really bad idea, don’t take on a song that’s too much for you! Any song that you personally enjoy will always sound better because your genuine enjoyment of your song will add the glimmer. Try and discover your ‘Banquet Song,’ also known as a Juhachiban in Japan, it is the song that will always surprise the audience and give them something to talk about.

2)Remember to Practice

If you have no previous experience of Karaoke then a little bedroom mirror time with the hair brush will improve your performance on the day. If you have the facilities to then listen back to how you sound singing and if you’re any good and even a second opinion would be an idea.

3)Warm Up Those Vocal Chords

On your big night make sure your voice has had a good break and when your nearly ready to perform then warm up your vocal chords by singing along to some of the songs on before you but don’t go for any notes you know you can’t hit.

4)Drink Plenty Of Water

Your voice should also benefit from a drink of water to keep your throat well hydrated, if you’re a smoker go easy on the cigarettes too, smoking won’t improve your vocal talents and unless you’re doing a Edith Piaf song. The secret to enhancing your vocal performance is drinking lots of water it will help your voice sound as good as it can do.

5)Singing Without Any Inhibitions

The most important thing is to stay relaxed and have a positive approach, if you’re too nervous it will show in the first big note you hit. So focus on your breathing and staying steady and calm, let your track start and then start your performance, really shut your eyes for a second and imaging your back at home just singing because you love it.
