So with MySpace having to tackle sex offenders and Facebook fighting for its life the offline news have been reporting online events and not in a good light. Is this the end to blogging and social networking? Can it be that the bubble is about burst and we are all about to see the fallout of closer regulation on line relating to the freedom of content and speech for our online world? Social networking and blogging are founded firmly on the ability to speak our minds and post it up as quickly as we can think about it. We can all post content to our blogs and social networking accounts in seconds. Being a blogger and IM marketer I am concerned that these types of events draw the attention of governments and regulatory authorities who just may use this type of news as a reason to meddle in our online affairs. Don't we all have a social and moral responsibility to police ourselves and keep our chunks of internet above board? I see every day posts and comments from people who seem to not care or forget that this is a world wide medium; after all WWW stands for World Wide Web. I am not sure where all this will end but are we about to see another dot com crash and the fall incomes from online businesses through our own greed and miss management of the power of the internet. These small events can become major issues online in a matter of hours. This can result in the world we live in looking very different over night. It is up to us bloggers to show we can be trusted. I am only a small fish in a very big sea but I call upon all the Big Fish out there in the blogosphere to set an example and show the world that we can be trusted to manage our own affairs. We can all hope that this storm stays in a tea cup but we all should take note that what we do online is visible to the whole connected world. We have to regulate ourselves before others decide to do it for us.
